Tweeting is for the birds

Tweeting is for the birds

I’m considering shutting down SWYW. That doesn’t mean I won’t continue to write. I will. It’s just I think I’ve gotten off course with my initial commission to write. It was two and half years ago that I sensed God telling me to write. Since then I’ve written a lot, some good, some not so good. Writing for me was supposed to be an artistic outlet, as well as a manner of pastoral communication — sharing the truths of Scripture using my own voice, as a preacher without a pulpit.

Embarrassing Our Girls with Laughter

Embarrassing Our Girls with Laughter

Our girls don’t want me to go to the movies with them anymore. I’d like to think it’s because they’re getting older, but, really, it’s been like this for a while now. See, I embarrass them. Not because I don’t dress cool enough for them. No, it’s because I laugh too much.

Sunday Setlist 8.7.11

Sunday Setlist 8.7.11

Always a favorite worship service of mine when we celebrate with communion. I wish we could do so more often. And I’ve made it my personal mission to work it in more than a few times a year. Brandon Hanks, the summer ministry intern at my church, preached about the woman who anointed Jesus feet, about whom I wrote an entire blog series. He pointed out how she worshiped lavishly, rather than reservedly, and he reminded us we should do the same.

Your Daily Serving

Your Daily Serving

Why not get out the old, manual can opener and serve up a heaping bowl of enriched, processed, more sodium-than-you-should-have-in-a-week SWYW? Serving suggestion.

Short post today, since it’s a holiday and I doubt anyone’s sitting around reading blogs—except me. Today’s question.

Water for Elephants

Water for Elephants

It’s been some time since I’ve recommended a movie. Either because I’m not very knowledgeable concerning the art of filmmaking or because I just haven’t seen many recently. It might be both. Last weekend, Cindy and I got away from the kids for an evening, and we took in Water for Elephants. I’d read the book last fall. Well, sort of. I’d listened to the audiobook. We arrived a little early, even after stopping at Kroger for some Red Vines. Now, sneaking in snacky contraband could very well be a sin, but we reasoned that the movie theater only carries Twizzlers, a far inferior licorice product. We still dropped $11 on root beer and popcorn and $20 for the tickets.

Spring Break…sort of

Spring Break…sort of

I’m taking the rest of the week off. A couple months ago I committed to write every day this year, part of the postaday2011 challenge. (See my post about it.) But I’m taking a break. Partly because I finally caught up with myself. I used to have posts scheduled a couple weeks out. But mostly I just don’t want to post anything right now. I wrote on Monday and Tuesday about a difficult time my family in Arizona is going through and how Cindy flew back home to be with them. …

Help me not write drivel you don’t care about

Since I started posting daily as a part of Postaday 2011, I’ve become curious about what your favorite category of posts is. So, if you wouldn’t mind, here’s a short survey to help me see what you’d like to read more of.
